 No good if there is background noise August 6, 2010

I have to agree with the reviewers that say these are too soft. I had considered how I would use these very carefully (flights, car trips, etc.) before I bought them. The reality is that if you are in a situation where the background noise becomes too high (do you know where your seats will be on every flight you take in the future?), the child can't hear. Mine ended up using my iPod earphones just so that he could hear. You are better off investing in a well-fitting set of headphones and watching the volume level being used, than buying these and being SOL if your kid can't hear.

We bought these in june 2008, for our 3,5 year old, so he could listen to DVD on the portable Sony DVP-FX930 9-Inch Portable DVD Player, Black when we were watching something else on TV or when we needed the silence. Being 'kids' headphone we expected this to work out well, but that was not the case. Altough reasonable good headphones, they did not seem to fit him as comfortable as we expected. He would fiddle quite a bit with it, and then to just take it off, and just wanted to watch and listen to the DVD with no headphone on. I suspect the headphone would move on his head and he would try to keep it in place till he got tired of it.
We then tried the Sony MDR-V150 Monitor Series Headphones with Reversible Earcups which we bought at the same time, but was intended for me. Guess what. These worked out much better. He actually keeps them one and watches a whole DVD with it on, without fiddling with it. He seems quite unawarre he has headphones on. I was quite surprised because I didn't think of it, but wasn't expected these 'grown up' headphones to fit him. But they did. Even much better. The earcups, altough bigger fits perfectly around his ears. The band adjust perfects to his head, and because it's wider, sits much better and doesn't fall off.
One point for buying these kids headphones is perhaps the sound-savety issue. If you are concern about volume issues, then perhaps you should go with these headphones, since they claim these kids headphones are saver,... something about keeping the volume low, so they do not harm there ears. But then again if kids won't use the headphone,.... what's the point. We personally don't have a problem with this. Our son doesn't like to have the sound loud. I always check the volume if it's not too loud for him, just to be on the save side anyway. He can actaully adjust the sound himself, but he rarely touches it. If he does it is to turn it down, not up. He keeps it on a reasonable low volume. So we are not concerned on this aspect.
So unless you are worried about volume-safety, why get these headphones, while you can get Sony MDR-V150 Monitor Series Headphones with Reversible Earcups for almost the same price?

We bought the Sony kids headphones for my 3yo to use with our portable DVD player after she broke our other pair of Kidz Gear brand ones (which took over a year of abuse before one of the speakers gave out from her playing with the wires). She complains about them falling off when she rests her head back in the car seat and I've seen her wearing them around her chin. This is probably because the ear pieces are completely flat and they aren't very tight on her head. The adjusting portion is a little loose and she's constantly playing with them then complaining that she made them too big and asking me to fix them while we're driving. I can't attest to the sound quality. They sound fine to me but I've never really used them. They do the job but overall I liked the quality of the Kidz Gear better.

we bought these so the children could listen to their dvd's in the car w/o the volume deafening those of us in front. i tested them out so I can say that the volume does not reach any sort of critical level. Well, to be honest, i don't know exactly what the critical level is for a 4 or 2 year old, but suffice it to say that they are not anywhere close to loud. Even if the DVD player is on max volume. The headphones even fit their little heads well. I really have no complaints whatsoever on these headphones and neither do my children, other than that they'd rather just listen to the movies w/o headphones. Although, they're very excited to use them & beg me to get them out at first, but after 5 minutes are soooo done with them.

I just needed simple headphones for my sons (6, 7) to listen to the iPod & portable DVD player (their 'little telly'). These Sony's are absolutely fine - good fit & sound for the listener, and peace for me!
